Purple Tuesday the UK’s 1st shopping accessible day is coming to Twickenham on the 13th November 2018.
This awareness campaign, created and co-ordinated by the disability organisation Purple, aims to increase awareness of the value and needs of disabled consumers. The Try Twickenham BID are working to support the People Hive to help promote this important initiative in Twickenham. The People Hive have offered to meet with customer-facing businesses and share ways in which they can become more aware and take steps to positively deal with any challenges they may face, and encourage them to make small changes to enhance the disabled customer’s experience.
Nearly one in every five people in the UK has a disability or impairment, and over half of households have a connection to someone with a disability. Their collective spending power – the Purple Pound – is worth £249 billion to the UK economy. However, the potential is not being fully realised and there are still real (and perceived) barriers that make it harder for persons with disabilities to find work, spend money online, in store and enjoy a drink or meal out.
If you want to register your interest with the People Hive and support this initiative please get in contact with the BID team on the email address below. Samantha Fyn who is the CEO of RHLT who runs the People Hive on Heath Road, would like to pop in to meet with you at a time which is convenient for your business.
Use your social media to promote #PurpleTuesdayTwickenham or #PurpleTuesday and let’s get behind this awareness campaign and encourage people with disabilities to come and visit, shop in and try Twickenham.
