FRAMES OF TWICKENHAM
Owners Andy McCann and Alan Taylor put Miranda Jessop in the picture about their successful business, Frames of Twickenham.
We have been framing pictures for the people of Twickenham for the last seventeen years, since we took over the business in 2001.
When a customer first comes in, it’s important to ascertain exactly what they want so we can identify the right style of framing. We discuss where they are going to hang the picture and what they are aiming to achieve. We talk our customers through every step of the process so they feel completely confident that they are making the right choice.
We have literally hundreds of different mouldings ranging from traditional all the way through to contemporary; the choice really is enormous. We have a large workshop behind the shop and we make everything right here on the premises.
A substantial proportion of our business is repeat business. Some framers charge extortionate prices but we would much rather do a good job for a reasonable price and have customers come back to us time and time again.
Every day is completely different and you never know what people are going to bring through the door next. Probably our most unusual request was to frame a pair of Lawrence Dallaglio’s underpants; our client had won them at an auction. We’re not sure his wife was too happy!
As well as our local customers, we also have a number of corporate clients including Sky TV for whom we frame a huge amount of sporting memorabilia.
To do this job, you need endless patience and a steady hand. We are both qualified Fine Art Trade Guild commended framers.
As well as two additional staff members, the two dogs, Lola and Elvis are an important part of our team. We love the fact that they can spend the day with us at work and customers often pop in just to see them.
In addition to our bespoke framing service, we also sell a selection of pictures including work by several local artists. If it is something we would hang on our own walls, then we feel happy selling it.
Prior to opening Frames, we ran a successful framing shop in Belgravia for many years. We once framed a Picasso for a customer who asked us to make a special frame which covered the bottom edge of the picture as he didn’t like the way Picasso had painted that part!
Twickenham is a great place to work and there is such a strong sense of community. We’ve been here so long now, we feel like we really belong. Our customers know us well and that makes our job very easy.
